Design Support

As part of my responsibilities as a senior member of Team17 I overlook and offer my thoughts and design expertise to 3rd party games Team17 publishes with the goal of helping the devs deliver a better game.

Neon Abyss: A frantic, roguelike action-platformer where you run 'n' gun your way into the Abyss as part of the Hades formed 'Grim Squad'. Featuring “Binding of Isaac” like item synergies, and a unique dungeon evolution system, each run diversifies the experience and every choice alters the ruleset of subsequent runs.

Blasphemous: A 2D platformer with brutal combat, challenging platforming and an atmospheric, highly detailed pixel-art style. Explore a dying world, facing hordes of dammed enemies and monstrous bosses, taking elements from the Soulslike and Metroidvania genres.

Yooka Laylee & the Impossible Lair: A 2.5D platformer heavily inspired by the 'Donkey Kong Country' series and a successors to the kickstarted “Yooka Laylee”. As the colourful buddy duo you must tackle a series of stunning, 2.5D levels and explore a puzzling 3D Overworld.

Responsibilities

Acting as a design point of contact for both Team17 and an external developer on projects, often there to offer guidance, write reports for the developers and be available to assist with design requests.

  • Provide regular feedback on builds to help improve key features such as platforming, level design and combat.

  • Produce examples of gameplay sequences or mock ups to help guide or improve sections of the game.

  • Act as a point of contact, meeting up with the developers in person to represent Team17 and the design department.

  • Work with developers to risk access, redesign or remove elements of the game as best suits the team and development time of the game.
